Newspaper Articles featuring Broomball in the Northwest Territories
The NWT Broomball Association submitted a nomination form to have Mr. Lynn Fowler inducted into the Canadian Broomball Federation Hall of Fame this past November. We have just learned that his nomination was accepted and approved by the Hall of Fame committee established by the Canadian Broomball Federation.
Lynn Fowler will be receiving his Sports Builder hall of fame award in Leduc, Alberta during the 30th Canadian National Broomball Championships during the evening of March 28th, 2006 during a special ceremony.
Lynn was the instrumental force in establishing the sport of broomball in the Northwest Territories in the late-1970’s. The City had asked him to coordinate the Caribou Carnival broomball tournament in 1978. The sport has since produced multiple award winning teams. It has also produced several award winning players at both the Western and National levels for men, women and juniors.
Lynn has been the manager of the Yellowknife Ravens men’s broomball team for 25 years. He was Chairperson of the 1988 National Broomball Championships which were held in Yellowknife. To this day people still say it was the Best national championship ever! That speaks volumes to his enthusiasm for the sport.
In Lynn’s words: “I would not trade the experience of being in broomball for anything in this world. I have made many good friends and have found that it is truly a sport where camaraderie is very precious and friendships are long lasting”.
Congratulations Lynn, aka Mr. Broomball.
